Steve is owned by some friends of ours. Though he is not our dog, he has been an excellent cornerstone of our program. Steve was not raised as a working dog, rather he has been raised as a protector of a VERY wide variety of animals. His owners have had other dogs that have not been as easy to train to the task, but Steve has always just been a great dog for their special circumstance and wide variety of animals.
Though Steve was never "tested on stock" and taught to work, we have found his and our Jade's pups to be extremely intuitive and naturals on stock. Steve has proved to help carry on exactly what we loved about Jade:
They do whatever it is that makes you happy. "You want to work stock, lets work stock. You want to throw a frisbee, I'll chase a frisbee. You want to watch Netflix and chill, I will chill."
These dogs live to serve you and will adapt to whatever that is if you make it clear to them. They love to play through adulthood, but have an excellent off switch.
